“A Grand Forte Piano”

“Schooner sailed for D. hall with the seed rice, rice flour & cotton—a Grand Forte piano, Barbarini Vase, — & arrived there about 2.p.m.”

An example of a grand forte piano in the collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

John Watson, Conservator of Early Keyboard Instruments at Colonial Williamsburg, joins Sarah Stroud Clarke to discuss this intriguing journal entry from Charles Drayton’s (1743-1820) plantation records on March 5, 1802. Learn who was likely playing the Grand forte piano and where it had arrived from in this fun webinar to conclude our 2021-2022 season.
