In a matter of months, William Henry Drayton, eldest son of John Drayton, transformed from staunch Loyalist and critic of colonial patriotism to one of the most radical patriots in South Carolina. But William Henry’s change of mind was not based on a change in his points of view; on the contrary, he found the transformation to be in the British government, not in himself. He would become one of the south’s greatest supporters of American liberty and keeping decisions regarding slavery in the hands of individual states, yet all the while adhered to traditional British views of social hierarchy that made him  controversial in the eyes of political rivals. In this donate-what-you-can webinar, we’ll explore William Henry’s fascinating political career from colonial Councilman to signer of the Articles of Confederation.
