A Day on the Ashley

with Middleton Place

Now in our 14th year, there’s a reason why this program is so popular with groups: it combines America’s oldest preserved plantation house with America’s oldest landscaped gardens to experience the best of both sites.

At Drayton Hall, your group will enjoy the Connoisseur Tour for an in-depth look at this enduring plantation and its extraordinary history. Afterwards, you can explore the exhibits at our historic Caretaker’s Cottage and shop at our Museum Store. At Middleton Place, you’ll enjoy a self-guided tour of the site’s extensive gardens, a professionally guided tour of a former flanker building̶—now furnished as a house museum—and a delicious Lowcountry lunch.

Wining & Dining in 18th-Century Charleston with Madeira Tasting

Connoisseur Tour & Private Tasting at Drayton Hall

Excerpts from oral histories and entries from Charles Drayton’s late 18th- and early 19th-century diaries open the doors to a world where dances took place in the upper Great Hall and where guests withdrew into smaller chambers for cards and conversation after dinner. You’ll find out where festivities took place, what food and beverages were enjoyed, and what activities were customary in each of Drayton Hall’s public, entertaining spaces. Afterwards, you’ll learn more about a favorite 18th-century libation through our popular Madeira tasting–a perfect way to complete your “Wining & Dining” experience.
