The Preservation Technology Tour Continues this Fall

Event, Preservation, Research, Uncategorized

The Preservation Tech Tour is a new program designed to give those with an interest in architecture, history, and preservation a better understanding of and appreciation for the technical aspects of the site’s design, construction, and preservation efforts.

Participants will be treated to a behind-the-scenes exploration of the house, examining construction details, architectural elements, materials, and past and current preservation efforts to reveal a fascinating layer of the site’s history that is rarely shown in such depth.  Led by Drayton Hall senior interpreters, the tour will begin with a brief illustrated lecture followed by a tour of the house, including areas normally closed to visitors.

Program details:

•Tours will be offered the first Saturday of every month, 8:30am to 10:30am. (September 4, 2010; October 2, 2010; November 6, 2010; December 2, 2010)

•Admission is $25 per person, $20 for Friends of Drayton Hall, and includes a light breakfast.

•Space is limited and advance reservations are required.  Contact: Amber Clawson at (843) 769-2608 or

About Drayton Hall:  Circa 1738, Drayton Hall has survived the centuries in near-original condition and is the oldest unrestored plantation house in America that is open to the public. Renowned for its Georgian-Palladian architecture and undisturbed, historic landscape, Drayton Hall is a living timeline representing centuries of change and continuity in the American South.
