The Spring 2019 edition covers great stories and information penned by all the areas of preservation at Drayton Hall. A photographic essay leads the edition called Saving Grace detailing the findings of a recent forum of national preservationist professionals brought together to review the most pressing structural preservation projects for the house which will be addressed in the next three years.
Collections has contributed a wonderful article entitled Heroic Measures. This is an opportunity to see, in detail, the before and after restoration of the Drayton Pier table. The table was an original furnishing of Drayton Hall c. 1730 to 1740 and was saved by the conservation efforts of Colonial Williamsburg. The Drayton Pier Table is now housed in the exhibit, An Agreeable Prospect in the new Stephen F. and Laura D. Gates Gallery int eh Sally Reahard Visitor Center at Drayton Hall.
Our landscape preservationist Eric Becker, has contributed an article which will allow more gardeners to sleep peacefully at night knowing they do not struggle alone. Reflections on the First Year of The Lenhardt Garden is a gallop through the challenges of excavating, planting, and replanting the new Lenhardt Garden at Drayton Hall. It was a pragmatic year in the garden and much was learned. The garden is now in full spring bloom and it is a feast for the eyes. While Mother Nature continues to throw curve balls, the landscape team knows all about swerving and their efforts have greatly paid in beauty for all our visitors. You can visit from a far in the new edition of Interiors.
This issue of Interiors also includes Drayton Hall’s 2017-2018 Annual Report which encompasses both annual giving as well as the Drayton Hall Reimagined Capital Campaign.
