Join us for a special look at how Christmas was celebrated at Drayton Hall from 10 am to 3 pm on Saturday, December 7. Find out how people observed the holiday in the past, what the Twelve Days of Christmas were, and how children participated in early American Christmas celebrations. Learn about the history of holiday decorations, make a fun craft to take home, and attend a reading of the Christmas classic “A Visit from St. Nicholas.”
Parents and kids can experience touch and tell activity carts that represent different eras of Christmas celebrations including Christmas tree history, gifts, decor and ornaments. Children will make Twelfth Night crowns to take home. At 12:00 and 1:30 we will have a reading of “A Visit from St. Nicholas” in the Education Center side C. House tours will focus on how the holidays were observed in the 18th and early 19th centuries based on Charles Drayton’s diaries and other sources.
Pre-registration: $10 for members, $12 for non-members; day of program: $22 adult, $15 child (ages 8-14).
