On April 26 at 12:30 pm, Curator Cameron Moon will host our weekly informal curator talk on Drayton Hall’s Traveling Trunk in The Caretaker’s House Gallery at Drayton Hall.
This sole leather traveling trunk likely belonged to either James (1820-1867) or John Drayton (1831-1912), as evidenced by the painted initials “J.D.” Sole leather trunks were regarded by travelers of the time as refined luxury items. The trunk represents the exodus that took place after the conclusion of the American Civil War as white, male Southerners sought new opportunities outside of the Reconstructionist South. This gallery talk will focus on Cameron’s research on the time period and economy as it applied to Drayton Hall and family members.
Drayton Hall’s Weekly Curator Gallery Talk Series is presented on Friday’s at 12:30 pm. These talks are included in your admission and membership. This is a wonderful weekly opportunity to hear the stories we are not able to fit on to the walls of our galleries. Lunch is served at Rudi’s Café; making for a perfect weekly Friday outing to the new Drayton Hall. No reservations are required, simply meet in the Caretaker’s House.
