A Taste of the Veneto – A Preview of Things to Come

Drayton Hall hosted a festive Italian dinner at the home of Monte Parsons for the travelers of Drayton Hall’s tour in September, “A Privileged View of Palladio’s Veneto.”  They began the evening with a glass of Villa Cornaro prosecco, and a welcome from George McDaniel.  Ken Vedrinkski, Chef of Trattoria Lucca in Charleston, prepared a dinner that even chefs in Italy will be challenged to match.  See for yourself! Taste of Veneto menu Franco Manzullo, a wine and food connoisseur and Drayton Hall’s volunteer visitor liaison with hotels and welcome centers,  provided each guest with an invaluable guide on choices of wine and food celebrated in the Veneto region.

The Drayton Hall trip will explore the work of Andrea Palladio, whose designs inspired the architecture of Drayton Hall.  The travelers will walk through time as they visit Palladio’s earliest to later architectural designs, both villas and public buildings.  The trip will be based in Vicenza where Palladio lived and worked most of his life.  Drayton Hall’s Site Council member, Carl Gable, will welcome the group to his home, Villa Cornaro, for a private lunch to experience modern life in a Palladian villa.

Not all of the travelers could attend “A Taste of the Veneto,” so it is our hope that in coming months this blog will offer the Drayton Hall travelers and others who would enjoy trip updates a way to share information and begin a conversation.

Our Italian dinner was but the first step into the Italian Renaissance and the world of Andrea Palladio.
